Today, we will learn about one of the most well-known Tiki cocktails, the famous Mai Tai, which originated at a bar called Trader Vic’s in Oakland, California.

The original recipe for the Mai Tai consists of mixing Jamaican rum, curaçao, lime juice, orgeat syrup (a kind of almond syrup) and a touch of grenadine syrup. It is served in a tall glass with ice and is adorned with a slice of pineapple and a cherry.

If you want to make a Mai Tai at home, you can follow this recipe:

  • 2 ounces Jamaican rum
  • 1 ounce curaçao
  • 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/4 ounce orgeat syrup
  • 1/4 ounce grenadine syrup
  • Ice
  • Pineapple slice and cherry for garnish

To prepare the cocktail, mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Place ice in a tall glass and pour the mixture into the glass. Garnish with the pineapple slice and cherry and serve immediately.
